Easy Ways to Maintain Your Home

Spring is a great time to fix up some of the inevitable wear and tear that takes place on your home over the winter months. Here are a few tips on how to get your home back into shape

Inspect your air conditioner

Test out your A/C before summer hits and address any issues now. The first heat wave is not the time to find out that there’s a problem with you A/C unit, so remove the cover, clean the debris and if needed schedule a service visit.

Give some TLC to your washer & dryer

Washers and dryers can certainly be life savers at times and it’s important to take care of them. Run vinegar through your washers hot water cycle and clean out any mold and debris from the gaskets as well as detergent dispensers. A vacuum comes in hand to for your dryer’s lint trap and dust and debris that lives behind the units. For tips on how to deep clean your washer and dryer be sure to follow @gocleanco on instagram.

Fix up your faucets

Check faucets for leaks and repair them by tightening the fixture or replacing washers. It’s also a good time the descale those faucets with vinegar (what can’t vinegar do!). It’s also a good time to check outdoor faucets for any cracks or leaks that may have been caused by freezing temperatures over the winter months.

Seal gaps and cracks around windows and doors

You want to seal areas where air can escape but also where bugs can enter. Mend holes in the screen if there are any and give those windows a good cleaning so you can see all the beautiful weather outside.

Refresh in and around your home

This is one of my personal favourites. Getting the lawn and garden ready for spring. Now is a good time to get rid of all the sticks, twigs and foliage that accumulated over the winter months. For your lawn, it may be time to start thinking about a pre-emergent/fertilizer or some over-seeding in the next couple of weeks. You can also trim back your garden (Ed Lawrence on CBC has got to be to go to for answers on how to take care of your plants). Maybe add some fresh flowers to the interior of your home and open up the windows to let some of that beautiful, fresh spring air into your home.
